City of Canning
The City of Canning’s Supported Youth Accommodation Program provides up to ten young men and women who are homeless, or at risk of being homeless, with safe, secure and affordable housing.
With the aim of developing a positive future, the program works to help homeless youth aged 16 to 21 live independently.
ABOUT City of Canning Houses:
Provides shared transitional housing for young people aged 16-21 years
Is located around the City of Canning.
Provides accommodation for both males and females.
Is a safe, secure environment.
Youth workers available Monday to Friday - 8.30-5.30
The service aims to develop and strengthen skills that enable young people to move into totally independent accommodation. Support staff can also provide assistance to young people to restore their relationship with their family.
Accommodation can be provided for periods of up to 12 months with external support provided by qualified and dedicated youth workers. Youth workers are available to provide external support to young people during office hours, but they do not live at the properties. A wait list is used to allocate properties to appropriate clients.
Shared supported housing for up to one year is available through five furnished properties, close to public transport, shops and other amenities.
Referrals can be made by family, friends and other support services and agencies. Young people can also seek assistance on their own behalf. Following a referral, an interview will assess the young person’s suitability for the service.
